5 Lessons I’ve Learned From College Moxie
College is the time to learn and grow -- surrounding yourself with a network of women who support this is one of the most important things you can do. College Moxie has provided me with an empowering and challenging environment that provokes personal growth. Here are 5 lessons that I’ve learned while working with College Moxie!
1. Check in on yourself
As a student managing a full course load, working, and leadership, it becomes very easy to simply move down my daily checklist without taking the time to check in with myself. College Moxie has reminded me that I cannot help others unless I’m taking care of myself first.
2. Check in on your friends
College Moxie has reminded me to elevate my friends. It's so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, but it is absolutely necessary to check in with the people we love. Fostering these habits of a healthy relationship can only have positive benefits!
3. Don’t underestimate yourself
In the past I’ve found myself not speaking up in the classroom because I didn’t think my comments were worth sharing, or I wasn’t applying to positions because I didn’t think I was qualified. I’ve learned to reverse this mindset and feel more confident in my abilities.
4. Be open to new opportunities
The best way to grow is to try new things! In college, we have so many opportunities at our fingertips -- taking risks and trying new things encourages growth!
5. Know when to say “No”
It can be easy to fall into the pressures of taking on every assignment, plan, and position that is presented to you, but learning when to say “no” is incredibly important. A creation of boundaries allows for more time for the things you really care about and ensures we are more likely to follow through on commitments made.
College Moxie has encouraged me to be the best version of myself -- to be a leader, a friend, and a woman that I am proud of!
